Most of you are familiar with poker game Texas Hold’em. While some people love to play poker, some do not like certain elements of the game, such as bluffing. Luckily, there is an alternative to playing Texas Hold’em that you can try at Australian online casinos. It is called Casino Hold’em.
Today, we will take a look at how to play Casino Hold’em and some basic strategy on how to play the game.
Rules of Casino Hold’em
Texas Hold’em is the game that was made famous by Rounders and exploded in popularity following Chris Moneymaker’s Main Event win at the 2003 World Series of Poker. If you know the rules of Texas Hold’em poker, then you already know most of how to play Casino Hold’em. Texas Hold’em is a poker game where you are dealt two hole cards and must make your best five-card poker hand using your hole cards and the five community cards in the middle.
In Casino Hold’em, though, prior to receiving cards, you will have to place your ante bet and your optional AA bonus side bet. The ante bet is equal to at least the minimum table stakes. If the minimum bet is $5, then you must ante at least $5 in order to play. The AA bet is an optional bet on whether you will have a pair of aces or better on the flop.
– The Flop
After you place your Ante and AA bets, you and the dealer will both receive two cards face down. These are your hole cards. The dealer will then deal three community cards face up. This is called the flop.
You can then decide to either continue in the hand or fold. If you decide to continue, you will then make the Call bet which is twice the size of your ante. From our previous example, if you bet $5 for your ante, your call bet will be $10.
If you have made a pair of aces or better on the flop, then you will win the AA bet. This bet is paid based on the following payout table:
- Royal Flush – 100 to 1
- Straight Flush – 50 to 1
- Four of a Kind – 40 to 1
- Full House – 30 to 1
- Flush – 20 to 1
- Aces, Two Pair, Three of a Kind, or a Straight – 7 to 1
You will be paid on the AA bet regardless of whether you continue in the hand or not. However, if you have hit the AA bet, there’s no reason to fold as you are going to make a profit regardless of the outcome of the total hand.
– Turn and River Cards
Once your Call bet is placed, the dealer will deal the remaining two community cards, known as the turn and river. After the community cards are dealt, the dealer turns over his hand and the winner is determined.
In order for the dealer to win, their hand must qualify with a pair of fours or better. If their hand qualifies and beats your hand, you lose your Ante and Call bets. However, if you win the AA bet, that will still pay out. If the dealer qualifies and your hand beats his, though, then you win both the Ante and Call bets. Should the dealer qualify and your hands tie, then both the Ante and Call are a push.
If the dealer fails to qualify then your Ante bet will pay but your Call bet is a push. Winning hands pay call bets at a rate of 1 to 1. The game’s pay chart determines your ante bet’s payout, with an example of an Ante bet pay table given below:
- Royal Flush – 100 to 1
- Straight Flush – 20 to 1
- Four of a Kind – 10 to 1
- Full House – 3 to 1
- Flush – 2 to 1
- Straight or Lower – 1 to 1
Tips for Playing Casino Hold’em
If you’re new to playing Casino Hold’em, there are a few things to keep in mind when playing. The first thing to realise is that you are going to only be folding the absolute worst hands. You will be making the call bet about 82% of the time.
The only times you are going to be looking to fold is if you have a complete junk hand such as 6-4 and the flop falls all high cards. If you do not have a pair on the flop or any type of draw, you should fold. If you have overcards to the board, then you should consider playing through to the river in case you catch your hand.
While it may seem tempting to play the AA bet regularly, the best play is to skip it as you will only get a pair of aces or better less than 4% of the time. If you play it, the best way to go is to play the same amount as the ante. Otherwise, you will quickly drain your stack.
Finally, if you are going to play Casino Hold’em at Australian online casinos, it is a good idea to sign up for an online casino bonus before trying it out. This will give you more money in your poker bankroll prior to playing. This will allow you to play more hands and give you a greater chance of winning.
Casino Hold’em isn’t going to make you rich like playing in high stakes Texas Hold’em poker tournaments, but it will give you a fun alternative to standard poker that will help you win a few bucks at online casinos.
