American Leg of 2020 WSOP Online Concludes

The American leg of the 2020 WSOP Online is now in the books. A schedule of 31 events concluded on Friday, capping off what was a fairly successful event.

Considering that players were only allowed to play in two US states, the series drew significantly better than most expected. Now the series continues over on GGPoker.

Geohring, McKeehen, and Dunst Among Big Name Winners

As expected, the 2020 WSOP Online crowned many champions who are either unknown to the poker world or ones that had never won a WSOP bracelet in the past. Among notable first-time winners was Ron McMillen.

McMillen is a well-known name on the WSOP circuit but never played online poker in his life before playing in Event #9. He ended up winning that event for his first career WSOP bracelet and $188,214 in prize money.

Alan Goehring is also a first-time WSOP bracelet winner, despite finishing runner up to Noel Furlong in the 1999 WSOP Main Event. Goehring finally broke through for his first title in Event #8, adding a much-needed bracelet to his poker resume.

Several players managed to add to their bracelet totals in this series. 2015 WSOP Main Event Champion Joe McKeehen won his third career bracelet in Event #14, the NL Hold’em High Roller. Tony Dunst added his second career title to his resume in Event #21.

Nick Binger has been a non-factor in the poker world the last few years but made his prescience known in a big way in Event #24. He took down the event for his second career bracelet along with $133,413 in prize money.

Overall, the WSOP Online drew solid numbers, especially considering that you had to be in either New Jersey or Nevada to play. Delaware was not allowed to play despite being on the interstate online poker network. Next year, expect Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Michigan to be able to participate since those states should have legal online poker launched by that time.
