But, on the following year Bain made an announcement that his cancer was terminal. In 2017, he announced that it had spread to his spine and liver. However, that did not break the YouTube mogul. Totalbiscuit continued to work on his channel and also The Co-Optional Podcast. But, this year due to conventional treatment methods which became ineffective, Bain announced that he was retiring from being a critic and producing gaming reviews.

“I fully expect The Co-optional Podcast to go on and I love the thought that once I’m gone, the channels will go on in my absence, hosted by the person who knows me best and has been with me for the better part of my adult life,” said Bain.
“It’s been a privilege…Thank you all for letting me into your life and do something so important as to have an impact on how you spend your hard-earned money,” he added.
Genna posted about his passing on Twitter, saying “Rest in Peace my Dearest Love, John @Totalbiscuit Bain.” Her heartfelt message was accompanied by a poem.
