Game of the Week – Horror House
With Halloween around the corner, we thought it would be the perfect time to check out Horror House, the latest 5-Reel video pokie from Booming Games. The game pays up to 3,125 ways and up to 4,800x your initial bet.
Let’s take a look at this fun take on the horror genre and all of the bonus features this game has to offer.
All the Kings of Horror Are in Horror House
Horror House is the latest 5-Reel pokie from Booming Games and has a horror theme. The “Big 3” of classic horror movies are featured in this game. Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolf Man are your highest paying symbols. Somehow, Chucky got thrown into the mix as well. Other paying symbols include a black cat, a black widow spider, and royals.
This game starts out with a modified 1-3-5-3-1 grid with 45 ways to pay. Each time you make a winning combination, you can trigger respins to try and win more. Bats serve as the Wild for this game and substitute for all symbols. There are no scatters for this game.
Horror House has a payout structure similar to RTG slots, meaning that many symbols don’t return your initial bet on three of a kind. You will need to make multiple line wins to accomplish this. Fortunately, there are some features to help you try and hit that ever-elusive big win.
When you trigger a winning combination, the respins feature kicks in. Two of the close windows on Reel 1 open, giving you 135 ways to win. If you win again, two windows on Reel 5 open to give you 405 ways to win. Get lucky and win again and two windows open on Reel 2 for 675 ways to win.
If you trigger the fourth respin, you get two more windows opened on Reel 4 for 1,125 ways to win. Trigger the fifth respin and the last two windows on Reel 1 open for 1,875 ways to win. Respins continue until you fail to win or you trigger the Free Spins bonus game.
For those lucky enough to win on all five respins, you will trigger the Free Games feature. This opens the last two windows on Reel 5 and gives you a massive 3,125 ways to win. You will get 8 free spins.
Unfortunately, I never triggered this feature and I played multiple sessions covering hundreds of spins. I got to the fifth respin once and missed. The respin feature is very exciting but I was hoping to hit the free spins at least once.
Horror House a Fun Game But High Variance
When I saw the logo for this game, I had to check it out. I’m a sucker for classic horror movies. The theme for this pokie is fun and fans of classic horror movies will enjoy it. However, it is a high variance pokie, so it can take a big chunk out of your bankroll.
For lower stakes players, stick with spins from .10 to .50. This game offers stakes ranging from .10 per spin up to $50 per spin. Knowing that game is high variance, you should adjust your bets to lower your bankroll variance.
That’s not to say this game doesn’t produce some nice wins. I was able to hit a few decent wins during the base games and respins. However, unless you’re able to trigger the free spins game, it is going to be hard to walk away from this game a winner.
