Game of the Week – Space Spins
There are many online pokies that promise an experience that’s “out of this world.” In the case of Space Spins, they deliver. Space Spins is a space-themed online pokie game from Wazdan. It is a 6-Reel, 40 payline game that has a unique feature where you can select the level of volatility for the game.

Star Raiders Gets An Upgrade
If you have ever played the classic Atari game Star Raider, you will have a good idea of how this game feels. You’re in a cockpit of a space ship exploring the galaxy. A mix of various low and high paying space symbols is available along with a payable starburst wild symbol.
The soundtrack for this game is a cool soundtrack that you’d expect to find in a sci-fi space adventure. Regarding graphics, they are a bit above average, but nothing special. There is very little in the way of animation and you feel like you’re playing an upgraded version of a standard 8-bit shooter rather than a modern video slot.
Space Pile and Free Spins
The main game only offers one special feature. Before each spin, a Space Pile symbol is selected and during the spin, you have a chance for a random number of reels to become a Space Pile. This is also known as stacked symbols in other games.
If the first two symbols become stacked, then the rest of the reels will speed up to try and give you more chances to hit another stacked pile. We were lucky enough to get about 5 reels of Space Pile during one spin, netting us a big win.
The scatter for this game is a UFO and if you hit three or more scatters on your screen, you unlock the free spins feature. You can get 10, 15, 20 or 25 free spins in this feature. When triggered, a Space Pile symbol will be selected at random.
When the spins begin, the ship will go into lightspeed mode. Unfortunately, there are no additional multipliers or added symbols. Once the free spins complete, you will be taken to a new galaxy, which just means your background will change. Unfortunately, you don’t get any additional multipliers or any additional features.
We were able to hit the free spins game twice, but we were unable to rack up a sizable win either time. In fact, we had more luck with the Space Pile feature as we hit a 1,000 credit win at one point.
Pick Your Volatility
One feature that’s makes this game stand out is the ability to pick your volatility. You can choose between low, standard, and high volatility. The low volatility will generally generate frequent smaller wins, but we hit our big win on this setting.
Standard volatility is described as a mix of low and high volatility, meaning you have an increased chance to hit a big win, but you will not have the frequent smaller wins. For high volatility, you have a better chance for big wins, but you will not have many smaller wins. This is for those that don’t mind risking some short-term value to hit a big win.
Space Spins a Solid Concept But Lacking in Execution
When I first spotted this slot game, I was intrigued and felt this could be a fun game to test. After playing it, I walk away somewhat disappointed. I love the fact you can choose your volatility, which is great for players. However, the game is lacking in delivery and special features.
For those that like space-themed pokies, this game is worth checking out for the volatility feature alone. However, for those that like games with a ton of features and a lot of animation, this may not be the best choice.
This game can be found at casinos such as Bonza Spins and Roo Casino. Both casinos offer outstanding deposit bonuses and ongoing promotions.
